Oil on Canvas: 80 x 120cm
The 3rd in my series from the rainy day I spent at Trafalgar Square and the national gallery. This is pretty much the same spot I was in for my National Gallery painting except I turn left, capturing Nelson and the Equestrian Statue of King George IV in the same frame.
London is almost always full of colour, even on rainy days. This afternoon was no exception with red busses reflecting in the puddles and colourful umbrellas covering diehard tourists. Although I prefer sunny days, for painting this contrast of bright and olive grey is very effective and has produced exactly the warm feeling I was looking to achieve. After this I disappeared up St Martins lane for a beer and to warm up. In all this series is a good reminder of that day and my student years in London.
